Glossary of Terms
ACCESS: ACCESS Service was created under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) offers this service for individuals who are physically and/or mentally disabled and cannot use the regular, fixed-route bus system.
Case Management: Case management is a series of steps taken by a professional care manager to help solve people's existing problems and anticipate future problems. It includes a comprehensive assessment, care planning, implementation, monitoring, and
reassessment.
HUD: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) assists low- and very low-income families in obtaining private accommodations. HUD makes up the difference between what a low- or very low-income household can afford and the approved rent for an adequate housing unit.
In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS): IHSS provides assistance for individuals who are aged, blind, or disabled to obtain chore workers to assist in their homes. There are specific eligibility requirements.
Orange Caregiver Resource Center (OCRC): OCRC is a multi-service agency providing information, counseling, resource referrals, education, respite, and training for family caregivers.
Respite: Respite is a break or relief in the duties of caregiving and gives the caregiver an opportunity for renewal. Respite care helps to reduce the physical and emotional stress of the caregiver.
