Community Education

What education is offered for Ombudsmen?

We offer two Ombudsman certification trainings every year, one each in the spring and fall. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday for six sessions over a three-week period, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Council office.

The state requires that each Ombudsman receive 12 hours of additional training annually to remain certified. This requirement is met by attendance at the monthly regional meetings and two Ombudsman Day training sessions each year.

Ombudsmen also participate in ongoing community education on topics, such as:

  • Elder Abuse
  • Confidentiality
  • Aging, and Resident’s Rights
  • Placement Options
  • Advance Health Care Directives

They attend health and information fairs throughout the county and share information on Ombudsman Services, Community Resources, and Long-Term Care issues. Additionally, the Ombudsman provides in-service training to facility staff.
